The British Social Attitudes survey is the leading social research survey in Britain. Since 1983, the annual surveys conducted by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) have continually monitored and interpreted the British public's changing attitudes towards social, economic, political and moral issues. Its findings are reported and interpreted in a series of annual reports; the 26th Report was published in January 2010.

This web-site was developed by the Centre for Comparative European Survey Data (CCESD) to provide non-specialist users with on-line access and analysis of a cumulative database of over 20,000 survey questions asked in British Social Attitudes surveys over the last 26 years.
Contents List
The Contents List provides an hierarchical list of topics covered by survey questions since 1983. It includes most questions asked in at least two surveys, 'drilling down' to total of some 7,500 items, but NOT every question in every survey. The results are displayed as time-series tables and charts.
It is recommended that researchers who wish to seach for a specific item should use the full-text Questionnaire Search below.
Search Questionnaires
The Questionnaire Search provides advanced, full-text searches of every question in every BSA survey, displaying the questions, response options, and links to pdf images of the original questionnaires. Selected search results may be viewed as time-series tables and charts.
BSA Bibliography
This is a basic bibliography of the Chapters in the annual BSA Report series, published since 1984. It is not a full academic bibliography of books and articles which use or are about the BSA surveys.
Users with publications which reference this site are welcome to submit details by email for addition to the Bibliography.
Survey Details
This links to an hierarchical tree display, year by year, of the study descriptions, and complete lists of surveys questions and variable names. There are options to view pdf images of the original questionnaires, and to display descriptive statistics in table and charts. Time-series data are generated automatically for questions asked in more than one year.
